One of the simplest ways to reduce first-day stress in China is to prepare your hotel address before you land. A clear Chinese address helps with taxis, ride-hailing, map apps, hotel check-in, food delivery, and asking local staff for directions.
1. Save the hotel name in Chinese and English
Do not rely only on the English hotel name. Save the Chinese hotel name, English hotel name, full street address, district, city, and phone number. If your hotel has multiple branches, confirm the exact branch before departure.
2. Keep a screenshot, not just a link
Airport Wi-Fi, roaming, or eSIM setup may not work immediately. Save offline screenshots of your booking confirmation, hotel address, map location, and phone number. Put them in a photo album you can open quickly.
3. Know your pickup point
Large airports, train stations, and malls may have several taxi areas or ride-hailing pickup points. Before leaving the building, check signs carefully and avoid walking outside too early if you are unsure where the driver can stop.
4. Prepare one simple message
Have a short message ready: "I am a foreign visitor. Please help me go to this hotel address." Show the Chinese address and hotel phone number together. This is often clearer than trying to explain everything by voice.
5. Check the route before the ride starts
Open a map app and confirm that the destination looks correct. If the hotel is inside a large complex, ask the hotel or driver which entrance is best. A few minutes of checking can prevent a long walk with luggage.
